Turned out to be yet another really good day. Bunked work and had a slow and chilled breakfast sending out texts to see which local slackers were around, but most seemed to be stuck in work. So I headed to Posh at about 11.30 for a sniff about with the plan of heading west until I found company. That was around the time of the first horrid squall, so lots of hail, rain and black cloud convinced me to head west straight away, so I bypassed Eastbourne and headed off on the A27. I mulled over all the stuff that had been written in the weather thread and decided to skip the Shoreham turnoff and take the Lancing one instead. I followed my nose to a bunch of T4's and raced to the beach. 4.5 seemed to be the order of the day, so got everything out of the car and then met weathercam who said 4m was the order of the day. I ignored him, which was foolish, so had a couple of insanely overpowered runs before scuttling off for my newly gaffered 4m. I did manage to queeze a bit of dtl in before changing down - no idea how credible I was on the wave face, but I felt clever.

The next squall sent most people home and it was just myself and Garethh (the latecomers) hanging around with pupils dilated waiting for the next fix. After about 15 mins, the wind came back with a vengeance and the waves had got considerably bigger. I took a step back and let the local show me how to negotiate the shorebreak , but then took a decisive lead and hit the water. As Garethh said, great waves and quite scary size for me. Best moment was definitely the last wave of the day, following Gareth down the line and then near killing him in the shorebreak as I came in behind him - not sure where that fits in the book of wave etiquette, but I suspect it marks me out as a novice.
